Available in sizes 3-0, 2-0. This monofilament polydioxanone synthetic absorbable surgical suture is prepared from the polyester, poly (p-dioxanone). Comparable to PDS II®, a registered trademark of Ethicon­®.

Polydioxanone (PDO) exhibits:

  • Excellent handling, exceptional suppleness, and good knot security

  • Polydioxanone monofilament synthetic absorbable suture is indicated for use in soft tissue approximation, including use in pediatric cardiovascular and ophthalmic procedures
  • Polydioxanone suture is not indicated in adult cardiovascular tissue, microsurgery, and neural tissue


  • Mono-Dox synthetic absorbable suture elicits a minimal acute inflammatory reaction in tissues, followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by fibrous connective tissue
  • Progressive loss of tensile strength and eventual absorption of Mono-Dox sutures occurs by means of hydrolysis

Tensile Strength:

  • Subcutaneous tissue implantation studies in rats indicate Mono-Dox suture retains approximately 95% of initial tensile strength at 2 weeks, 80-85% at 4 weeks and 75% at 6 weeks post implantation


  • Absorption begins as a loss of tensile strength without appreciable loss of mass
  • Absorption of Mono-Dox sutures is minimal until about the 60th day after implant and is essentially complete within 6-8 months
