Available in sizes 3-0, 2-0, 0. This braided coated, synthetic absorbent suture is composed of polyglycolic acid (PGA). The suture is coated with polycaprolactone and calcium stearate. Comparable to Vicryl®, a registered trademark of Ethicon­®.

  • Polyglycolic acid is indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in ophthalmic procedures
  • Not indicated for use in cardiovascular and neurological procedures


  • Polyglycolic acid suture elicits a minimal acute inflammatory reaction in tissues, followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by fibrous connective tissue
  • Progressive loss of tensile strength and eventual absorption of sutures occurs by means of hydrolysis

Tensile Strength:

  • Subcutaneous tissue implantation studies in rats indicate suture approximately retains 82% of the original tensile strength at 2 weeks and 56% at 3 weeks


  • Absorption begins as a loss of tensile strength without appreciable loss of mass
  • Absorption is essentially complete between 90 and 100 days
