Dissecting hemostatic forceps clamp onto blood vessels and control bleeding. They are also referred to as blood vessel forceps or hemostats for short. Dissecting hemostatic forceps tend to be long and slender in order to get to blood vessels easily and with a minimum of trauma. Dissecting hemostatic forceps resemble scissors and have locking mechanisms that maintain a firm clamp on blood vessels, holding them in place. They feature straight, curved, or right-angle beaks depending on their surgical application. The beaks may carry serrations to assist in gripping or consist of a smooth surface for extra delicate blood vessels. Dissecting hemostatic forceps are used primarily in surgery for blunt dissection and in dental surgery for removing pieces of bone and teeth during tooth removal.
We carry a number of straight dissecting hemostatic forceps in our online inventory. These models have proven highly effective in a number of surgical procedures such as blunt dissection in eye surgery, podiatry operations, and Norplant removal. They have also been useful in circumcision operations. We carry straight-beaked Dissecting hemostat forceps in Schnidt Schnidt, Adson, and Heiss Forceps. We also offer straight-beaked Mosquito dissecting hemostat forceps useful in dental surgery, blunt dissection in no-scalpel vasectomies, and lung surgery. Mosquito Forceps serve to stop bleeding in small blood vessels, especially when working around sensitive or delicate tissues.
Curved dissecting hemostat forceps prove highly useful to surgeons operating within either the thoracic or abdominal cavity. In such instances, they require tools to reach blood vessels near vital organs and bone structures that offer limited exposure. Curved dissecting hemostat forceps can also assist in the treatment of wounds in emergency room patients. We offer a number of curved dissecting hemostat forceps in our online inventory. To accommodate for the wide variety these applications face, we offer forceps with slightly curved beaks and others with fully curved beaks. Sizes range from the 7-1/2" straight Mosquito forceps to our large 11" curved Lahey forceps . For extra specialization, we carry 8" Heiss Thoracic models with straight, slightly curved, and full curved beaks.
At times physicians require more than simple curvature to perform complex procedures with a minimum of trauma and recovery time. Knee surgeons find right-angle hemostats highly valuable in minimally invasive knee surgery techniques. Lung operations such as pulmonary lobectomies and facial nerve dissection also require right-angle beaks in dissecting hemostat forceps. To meet this wide variety of demand and practice, our online inventory offers Mixter Forceps in both original models for standard procedures and “Baby” fine dissecting points for sensitive operations. Sizes range from 5-1/2" to 7-1/4". For surgeries that require an even larger reach we carry right-angled Kantrowitz dissecting hemostat forceps in 7-1/2" and 9-1/2" sizes.
